Instant messaging app WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will let macOS and Windows users react to messages in a new way. The app is now prepping to roll out a shortcut to quickly react to messages and the ability to view who reacted to messages for its Desktop version. THe new feature can be an expansion to WhatsApp reactions that are reportedly in the works for the last few months. Once this feature is rolled out, WhatsApp users will be able to react to a message using emojis similar to the reactions that are available on Facebook Messenger and Apple iMessage. This feature will be available to both mobile as well as desktop users.

The development has been reported by WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo. It will be rolled out on WhatsApp Desktop beta version 2.2208.1. However, it is yet to be made available to public beta testers.

The feature is named as React to message will be available in the message menu. Users will be able to access this new way to react to a message by right clicking on that text in the app. WABetaInfo has even shared the screengrab of the same.

Last week, the messaging app was spotted updating its desktop version by adding a “reaction” emoji next to messages. The new way, though, appears to add one more step to make it easy to react to messages on the app.

The app has been working on message reactions since at least August 2021. AS per the information shared by the WABetaInfo, the feature may bring emojis to share reactions such as “Like,” “Love,” “Laugh,” and “Surprise.”

WhatsApp users may also be able to get a reaction info tab where they can look at all reactions received on a particular message. Additionally, WhatsApp group users too will be able to react to messages and see who have reacted to which messages in the group.

Exact details on message reactions will be made available soon. The feature is apparently at a development stage at this moment.
