WhatsApp has announced that a new update is available on the App Store, which will bring the version up to 2.21.240. The messaging application has been rolling out several updates for the Android and iOS users. And the latest is for the iOS users. The information was shared by WABetaInfo over its Twitter account where it posted, "WhatsApp Messenger for iOS 2.21.240: what's new? After announcing a default message timer and multiple durations about disappearing messages, WhatsApp is now rolling out these features for the new WhatsApp update on the App Store."

WhatsApp has earlier on December 6, 2021 announced that new features about disappearing messages are now rolling out to people that use stable updates of WhatsApp. And now, WhatsApp is finally releasing a compatible update on the App Store. It can be known that the default message timer is a new feature that allows starting new chat threads with disappearing messages automatically enabled. You can toggle this setting within WhatsApp Privacy Settings.

In addition, WhatsApp is also releasing multiple durations when you enable disappearing messages in your chats, introducing 90 days and 24 hours. Both features were already released for iOS and Android beta testers some time ago, but WhatsApp finally rolled out them to stable users on December 7, including WhatsApp Business, WABetaInfo informed.

While talking about more control and privacy with default disappearing messages and multiple duration, WhatsApp in a blog post said that it is excited to provide users with more options to control their messages and how long they stick around, with default disappearing messages and multiple durations.

WhatsApp users will now have the option to turn on disappearing messages by default for all new chats. When enabled, all new one-on-one chats you or another person start will be set to disappear at your chosen duration, and WhatsApp has added a new option when creating a group chat that lets you turn it on for groups you create. This new feature is optional and does not change or delete any of your existing chats.

The application has also added two new duration for disappearing messages: 24 hours and 90 days, as well as the existing option of 7 days. "For people who choose to switch on default disappearing messages, we will display a message in your chats that tells people this is the default you've chosen. This makes clear it's nothing personal - it's a choice you've made about how you want to communicate with everyone on WhatsApp moving forward. Though of course, if you need a particular conversation to remain permanent, it's easy to switch a chat back," WhatsApp said.

To get started, you can go to your Privacy settings and select ‘Default Message Timer'.
