Xiaomi to launch Redmi 6 today; everything we know so far

Xiaomi will unveil its new Redmi 6 smartphone series today. Here’s a look at everything we know about the new Xiaomi phone.

Xiaomi is all set to launch its new smartphone Redmi 6 in China today. The company had announced the launch on Weibo, and teased the phone quite a few times. Prior to its launch here's what we gathered from teasers, leaks and reports.

Xiaomi shared a poster on Weibo believed to be of the upcoming Redmi 6. The poster reveals the front design of the phone which looks quite similar to Redmi 5. The smartphone has a full display with a single selfie camera on top and a thick bottom chin. The power key and volume rocker are placed on the right side. Redmi 6 was earlier rumoured to feature a notch display, but it seems like the smartphone may not receive a design overhaul after all.

In terms of specifications, Xiaomi Redmi 6 is expected to feature a 5.45-inch HD+ display with 1440x720 pixels resolution. The full display will have an aspect ratio of 18:9. The smartphone will possibly have onscreen buttons, which hints at a rear fingerprint sensor. Redmi 6 will most likely feature face unlock as well which is available on all the latest Xiaomi phones.

Under the hood, the smartphone will possibly run MediaTek's Helio P22 octa-core processor. In terms of storage there could be three options of 2GB RAM plus 16GB storage, 3GB RAM plus 32GB storage and 4GB RAM plus 64GB storage. For photography, Redmi 6 could offer a dual-camera setup, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Other expected features on Redmi 6 include a 3,900mAh battery and Android 8.1 Oreo based on MIUI.

Xiaomi would be unveiling a new Redmi series and could launch more than one smartphone. The Redmi 6 series could comprise Redmi 6 Pro and Redmi 6A as well. With the event only a day away, we'll very soon get to know what Xiaomi has in store for its latest budget Redmi series.
