Xiaomi on Tuesday launched its first Android Go smartphone, Redmi Go. The first sale for Redmi Go will take place on March 22 through mi.com, Flipkart, Mi Home stores and Mi preferred stores.

With Redmi Go, Xiaomi joins a small but growing list of Android Go phones. Android Go is Google's lightweight OS for low-end smartphones. Android Go runs lighter versions of Android apps like Gmail Go, YouTube Go, Maps Go and more. In India itself, users have choices between Android Go phones like Nokia 2.1, Nokia 1, Samsung Galaxy J2 Core and Micromax Bharat Go.

Here's a comparison between Redmi Go, Nokia 2.1 and Galaxy J2 Core.

Display, design

Android Go phones being entry-level phones offer a simple look and feel. There's no notch or edge-to-edge displays on these phones. Redmi Go has a metallic body with capacitive and two colour options of blue and black. 5-inch HD display, 5-inch qHD display, 5.5-inch HD display.

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core also comes in blue with a similar form factor and on-screen navigation buttons. Nokia 2.1 offers a more appealing look with colour combinations of blue plus copper and light grey plus silver. In terms of display, Redmi Go and Galaxy J2 Core offer a 5-inch screen with HD and qHD resolutions respectively. Nokia 2.1 has a bigger 5.5-inch HD display.

Performance

Redmi Go is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor paired with 1GB RAM and 8GB onboard storage. The smartphone packs a 3,000mAh battery. In comparison, Nokia 2.1 has a bigger 4,000mAh battery, and comes with the same chipset and storage configuration. Galaxy J2 Core has the smallest 2,600mAh battery, and runs on in-house Exynos 7570 processor.

On the software front, Redmi Go and Galaxy J2 Core run Android Oreo (Go edition). Nokia 2.1 runs on the latest Android Pie (Go edition).

Camera

For photography, all three sport an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie snapper. Redmi Go offers features like burst mode, Full HD video recording, and HDR. Galaxy J2 Core also features Full HD video recording alon with flash and auto-focus. Nokia 2.1 comes with flash on both rear and front cameras.

Price

Among the three, Redmi Go has the cheapest price tag of 4,499. Next in line is Galaxy J2 Core which is available at 5,990. Nokia 2.1 is priced the highest at 6,499.

Summing up,

All three phones offer similar specifications and features. Nokia 2.1 does cost higher but it also comes with the latest software, a bigger screen and battery.
