Nothing has some news for you, their first product is coming in June
Nothing’s first product, the Ear 1 earphones is going to launch in June and here’s what we know so far.
Nothing has some news for you. As much as we want to follow that sentence up with - “and for a change, it's something”, we won't. The co-founder and CEO of the company, Carl Pei, has given us some idea about what we can expect from them and for now, we know that their first product is coming in June this year. Pei's blog talks about the company's journey so far and how they are building up towards their first device, their journey towards nothing, earphones that have been named - Ear 1.
Nothing was formed in October last year, and as Pei mentions in the blog, the early concepts for the Ear 1 came up around winter last year, and now we can expect to see them next month. “Our mission is to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future that looks, lives, and feels like nothing,” Pei writes.
“Design is still top secret but what we can tell you is that Ear 1 combines notes of transparency, iconic form, and refined functionality,” Pei said keeping almost all details under wraps. However, the concept art shared with the blog has earbuds with long stems and two buttons in red and white (why so OnePlus?), which could be the two control buttons for the earphones. Also, the name - Ear 1 is significant and literally alludes to what the company is looking forward to this year, it's year one.
“So why start with earbuds?” Our question too. Pei explains this with - “Like you, we love music, podcasts, and audiobooks”. And there's more to this. “We believe the earphones market was begging for differentiation, a space where we can elevate design and deliver value from day one,” Pei adds.
“Additionally, as an area of hyper growth, the earphones market will provide a fertile backdrop as we strengthen our capabilities and prepare to enter new product categories,” Pei writes.
We've seen some concept art for what Nothing is planning in the past thanks to the company's social media posts. Pei shared some pictures of earphones that were named Concept 1. The red and white colours turned up then too but the TWS looked a little more circular and compact as compared to the design we see in the shadows today. The upcoming Ear 1 could be the final evolution of Concept 1, so we will have to wait and watch. Again, this is just an illustration and the colour scheme could be everything, or nothing, to go by. We'll just look forward to June.

Mirroring the product’s stripped-down aesthetic, the name Ear 1 echoes our raw ambition — to let things be what they are.
We don’t try to dress it up with a fancy name. Nor do we want to sit around debating said names. We let Ear 1 speak for itself.
