Samsung has just announced its new Odyssey Neo 240Hz gaming monitor. Now, it is essentially an upgraded version of the Odyssey G9 and comes with the Neo QLED tech that Samsung uses in its recent TVs that feature mini-LED backlights. The Odyssey Neo G9 is reportedly the world's first mini-LED curved gaming monitor with Quantum Matrix tech. It looks fantastic and going by the specs this monitor should be a great upgrade to your gaming experience, and of course, it is not cheap.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is a 49-inch curved monitor that comes with a 32:9 aspect ratio. So it's like two 16:9 monitors placed side by side. The resolution on the Odyssey Neo G9 is the same as the original Odyssey G9 monitor - 5,120 x 1,440 pixels - and it comes wit the same 1000R curvature. As compared to the Odyssey G9 that was launched last year, what sets the Odyssey Neo G9 apart is the new Quantum Mini LED matrix which has some significant advantages when it comes to image quality.

The mini-LEDs on the Odyssey Neo G9 measure just 1/40th of the size of regular LEDs and this allows Samsung to fit in way more of them into the backlight. Thus, as compared to the 10 dimming zones on the G9, the Odyssey Neo G9 has 2,048 dimming zones. That also makes the backlight twice as bright on the Odyssey Neo G9 earning it a Quantum HDR 2000 certification by VDE (VDE is one of Europe's largest technical-scientic associations, as GSMArena reminds us). This Quantum HDR 2000 certification means 2,000 nits peak brightness, typical brightness usually is a mere 420 nits. The static contrast ratio on the Odyssey Neo G9 has been improved to reach 1,000,000:1 and all of this is precisely controlled with 12-bit resolution.

In the US the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 will be available on August 9 and will cost $2,500 ( ₹185,963 approx).

The monitor comes with a DisplayPort 1.4 input with Adaptive Sync and an HDMI 2.1 VRR input with both Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. Additional connectivity on the Odyssey Neo G9 includes two USB ports and a headphone jack.

The Odyssey Neo G9 comes with RGB lighting to fit in with the rest of your gaming gear. Samsung calls it the Infinity Core Lighting+ system and it can be customised over 52 colours and 5 lighting effects with CoreSync.
