Apple recently brought its M1 Silicon chipset to iPad Pro models and colourful iMacs as well. However, behind the scenes, it is working on the second generation of M1, tipped as M2. And according to a latest report by Nikkei Asia, the M2 chipsets have gone into mass production this month. It has been mentioned that the processors take around three months to get produced and might start shipping as early as July when Apple introduces its new line of MacBook laptops.

The Apple M2 Silicon is being produced by TSMC, which also worked on M1. It is also likely to be made using the same 5nm process. It is not for sure how much of an upgrade will M2 be as compared to last year's M1. However, for reference, the M1 has an 8-core CPU, up to an 8-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine along with a unified memory architecture.

Not sure which
laptop to buy?

At the time of introducing the M1 chipset, Apple said it was 3.5x faster system performance, up to 6x faster graphics performance and up to 15x faster machine learning, while running for 2x longer on battery than previous-generation Macs, which ran on Intel processors.

We are expecting the firm to bring M1 to more devices this year while introducing M2 for some new ones. Apple has already said that it is on a two-year mission to replace all its existing Intel-based devices with M-series chipsets. So, naturally, it has to be aggressive in placing M-series processors in its MacBook, iPad and iMac products.

As per previous rumours, Apple is expected to launch new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in a new form factor. It is also expected to launch a redesigned 27-inch iMac later this year and a smaller version of Mac Pro by next year.
