Apple iPhone 12 6.1-inch to make up 40% of total iPhone shipments: Kuo

iPhone 12 6.1-inch will be preferred over iPhone 12 mini even though it will cost lesser, according to Kuo.

Apple iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max to launch today.

Four new iPhones are expected at the Apple Event later tonight. Among the four iPhone 12 models, the iPhone 12 6.1-inch model will be the most purchased one according to Min-Chi Kuo.

Kuo predicts the iPhone 12 6.1-inch will make up around 40% of the total shipments for the iPhone 12 series. This would make the standard iPhone 12 the highest-selling model out of the four iPhones. As for the other three models, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will occupy around 20% each of the total shipments, Kuo said in its research note as reported by Apple Insider.

The iPhone 12 mini which would be the cheapest iPhone of the lot will interestingly not be the highest-selling model, Kuo added. This Kuo suggests will be due to its compact size which most consumers won't prefer. iPhone 12 mini is expected to feature a 5.4-inch display, and it could be priced at $699. iPhone 12 is said to carry a price tag of $799.

Another interesting claim made by Kuo is said that price will be the determining factor for the iPhone 12 models, and not 5G. The iPhone 12 series will be the first iPhone to come with 5G support. The Apple Event is also titled “Hi, Speed” hinting at 5G connectivity. This however will not be that important to consumers, Kuo said.

When it comes to overall sale of the iPhone 12 series, Kuo predicts a lower demand in comparison to the iPhone 11 series. This is largely due to Covid which delayed the iPhone 12 launch and shipments as well. Joining the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 will be iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
