Apple to launch four new iPhone 12 models this fall

The four iPhone 12 models will be split into two halves. There will be two basic models with 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch screen options and two high-end models with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen options.

Apple is set to launch its next-generation iPhone 12 models in fall this year. Reports in the past have detailed the specifications and features that the upcoming iPhone models are likely to sport. Now, a new report says that the iPhone 12 series will comprise of four different iPhone models.

As per a Bloomberg report, the four iPhone 12 models will be split into two halves. There will be two basic models with 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch screen options and two high-end models with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen options. All of these iPhone models will feature improved OLED displays and the 6.7-inch model will be the biggest iPhone that the company has ever built.

In addition to having updated OLED display, all four iPhones will have squared edges that are similar to the iPad Pro. The high-end iPhone 12 models will have a stainless steel chassis and the Midnight Green colour, that was available in last's Pro lineup will be replaced by a Dark Blue colour variant. The lower-end iPhone 12 models, on the other hand, will get aluminium chassis.

As far as the sensors are concerned, the report states that the Pro models will get the same LIDAR sensors that are available in iPad Pro that was launched in March this year. The iPhone 12 series iPhone models will come with Apple's A14 SoC that will feature improvements in terms of speed and power efficiency in comparison to the A13 Bionic chipset. Lastly, all iPhone 12 series smartphones will come with 5G connectivity.

As far as the availability is concerned, the report states that Apple will opt for a staggered release strategy for its iPhone 12 series smartphones. The lower-end iPhone models will be available for sale a bit sooner than the higher-end iPhone models. Apple, during a recent conference call, said that the new iPhone models will ship a feature weeks later than last year's iPhone 11 models. Now, Apple started shipping the iPhone 11 models starting September 20 last year. This means that the lower-end iPhone models will start shipping sometime in mid of October. The higher-end iPhone models are likely to ship in early November.

Notably, this is not the first time that reports have detailed that Apple will be launching four new iPhone models this year. Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo, in the past, has suggested similar iPhone lineup coming this fall. All said and done, Apple hasn't said anything on the matter yet. So, we will have to wait for a word from the company to say anything with surety.
