The novel coronavirus pandemic forced people and companies around the world to move to more digital forms of communication, such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. These services work via apps on Android and iOS, as well as on desktops and laptops or using web versions. The Google Meet app for smartphones is now getting an important feature that its competitors have had for months, the ability to view participants in a grid.

Google Meet's web version has supported viewing meeting participants in a grid format for a while now, but mobile users could not, and the company has finally added the feature four years after Meet was first launched. Google informed its users about the change via their Workspace Twitter account earlier today.

Users on iOS will now be able to view up to 8 participants at the same time, with those speaking highlighted, while those who do not interact for a while will move out of view to make space for other participants, according to XDA. The company's tweet says that the feature will be “coming soon to Android, which could mean a few days or even weeks.

We had recently reported that Google was also making it easier for users to start or join a Meet call, with updates to the “New meeting” button to show three options to create a meeting for later, start an instant meeting, and schedule in Google Calendar. The company also rolled out an option to allow users to check how they look in the form of a visual preview before they are added to a call.
