Latest leaks suggest that iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro models will witness a major upgrade to the front camera. Auto-focus and larger lens are on the cards. Check details.
It has been more than a week since the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), and now the focus is back on the iPhone 14. A recent leak has now revealed several major pieces of information around the upcoming Apple smartphone's front camera. The leak comes from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who penned a detailed post on Medium revealing major changes around the front camera of iPhone 14. According to him, one of the biggest feature upgrades will be a switch from the existing fixed focus to auto-focus. Kuo also claims that this will significantly improve the selfie and video performance of the front camera. It should be noted that if the leak is true, this will be the first time the front camera of any iPhone device will support auto-focus.
iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro models to get major front camera upgrades
Apart from auto-focus, there are more front camera upgrades being planned by Apple. According to Kuo, Apple is also planning to upgrade the lens for the selfie camera. At present, Apple uses a 5P lens with an f/2.2 aperture on its iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models, but the iPhone 14 lineup may feature a 6P lens with a f/1.9 aperture. For the unversed, the 5P lens essentially contains 5 different types of lenses and the 6P will contain an additional type of lens to give a sharper and more detailed image. The smaller aperture also ensures more light reaches the camera for a brighter image.
Kuo revealed information around the key suppliers for the front camera as well. Taiwan-based Genius is expected to be the main supplier for the 6P lens and the shift can cost Apple a higher average selling price (ASP) by 20%. Largan will remain the other lens supplier. Cowell and LG Innotek will be providing the CCM (CMOS Camera Module) and Luxshare ICT is the new VCM (Voice Coil Motor) supplier, according to Kuo.
Do note, none of this information comes from the official sources and are based on leaks. The information may or may not come true and nothing can be confirmed at the moment. We recommend taking this information with some skepticism till Apple makes any announcement regarding the same.
