Chipset giant Qualcomm is reportedly working with Asus to launch self-branded gaming phones. The first smartphone under the partnership could debut by the end of this year.

According to Digitimes (via Android Authority), Qualcomm will be implementing the design as well as software optimisations for its upcoming Snapdragon 875 processor on the gaming phone. The report hints Qualcomm-branded phones could be identical Asus' ROG phones.

Qualcomm and Asus are planning to sell one million phones under the new arrangements. About 500,000 units will be sold with Qualcomm branding, added the report.

Interestingly, the timeline of the Qualcomm-branded phone is in line with the company's next flagship chip announcement, which usually takes place in December. Qualcomm will showcase the Snapdragon 875 processor which is set to power many 2021 flagships including the likes of S21.

Right now, it is not clear what the Qualcomm-branded gaming phone would look like. That said, a ROG Phone-like phone will not be a bad thing considering the phone has received mostly positive reviews from gaming enthusiasts.

In our review of ROG Phone 3, we'd pointed out that the gaming phone delivered at almost all fronts. It also impressed us with its gaming capabilities and overall performance. A deeper Qualcomm integration is likely to further enhance the experience on what is already a solid premium phone.
