BlackBerry KEY2 with improved physical keyboard, dual cameras launched: Price, specifications and features
BlackBerry launches its second QWERTY keyboard smartphone under its KEY series. The smartphone comes with a dual-camera setup on the back, and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo.
BlackBerry is back with a new phone. TCL, which owns license to use BlackBerry brand in select markets, on Thursday launched KEY2, a refined version of the last year's BlackBerry KeyOne. The smartphone retains the combination of a physical QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen. BlackBerry KEY2 is priced at $690 ( ₹43,800 approximately).
BlackBerry KEY2 is wrapped in Corning's Gorilla Glass with the textured back panel in two colour options of black and silver. The QWERTY keyboard on BlackBerry KEY2 however comes with a new speed key located at the bottom tray with nine dots. Pressing the speed and another key like 'G' will launch the Google app. At the bottom of the display are three capacitive menu buttons, and the fingerprint sensor rests on the space bar.
The highlight of the latest BlackBerry KEY2 remains the built-in security feature. The smartphone comes with a bunch of security features such as Dtek, Locker, and Power Center. For instance, the Locker application is a secure folder for all fingerprint-protected private photos and files. The app can now also store your private applications and browsers. The Power Center usage machine learning algorithms to understand users' charging patterns to give personalised alerts for battery life.
There are some changes to the physical keyboard as well. While spacebar still doubles as fingerprint reader, the entire keyboard can be used to access key functions via gestures BlackBerry also lets you customise the keys to quick access smartphone features. BlackBerry KEY2 specifications
BlackBerry KEY2 features a 4.5-inch IPS display with 1620x1080pixels resolution and an aspect ratio of 3:2. Under the hood of the smartphone runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor paired with 6GB of RAM. Also on offer are two storage options of 64GB and 128GB which is further expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card.
In the photography department, BlackBerry KEY2 sports a dual-camera setup at the rear which includes a pair of 12-megapixel sensors with dual tone LED flash, dual PDAF, and 4K video recording capabilities. For selfies, the smartphone offers an 8-megapixel camera with fixed focus, selfie flash and full HD video recording capabilities.
On the software front, BlackBerry KEY2 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. The smartphone is fuelled by a 3,500mAh battery which the company claims can offer up to two days of juice.
