Facebook CEO shows up at Reliance Jio AGM 2020, here’s what he said

At the event, while talking about Jio’s partnership with major tech firms from around the globe, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani said how Facebook and Jio shared the same vision of powering consumers digitally.

At the Reliance industries Limited's 43rd Annual General Meeting we didn't just see Sundar Pichai leaving a video note on the Jio-Google partnership, but also Mark Zuckerberg showing up towards the end. But what was the Facebook co-founder and CEO doing there? At the event, while talking about Jio's partnership with major tech firms from around the globe, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani said how Facebook and Jio shared the same vision of powering consumers digitally. He also talked about Facebook-Jio partnership that took place in April this year.

That's when the video message from the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg was showed. In the video, Zuckerberg talked about Facebook becoming the largest minority shareholder in Jio platforms and how it could power the businesses.

“No, with a lot of communities around the world in lockdown, it's even more important than ever that people have the tools to connect with each other, and the businesses can find way to operate online. This is something that we think we can help with, which is why we are proud to be partnering with Jio to help people and businesses in India create new opportunities and we're going to share more on this. So, I'm going to than Mr. Mukesh Ambani, the entire Jio team for your partnership,” said Zuckerberg in the video. “This is an important moment for all of us and I want to personally extend a welcome to all others who want to get involved and help in this effort. We're looking forward to getting started. So, thank you.”

It is worth adding that in April, Facebook announced that it was investing $5.7 billion (roughly ₹43,574 crore) in Reliance Jio platforms and buy 9.99% equity stake. This investment is done keeping in mind the focus on small and medium businesses.
