Firefox goes the Chrome way, makes URLs look cleaner

Although this saves some space on the smartphone screen, it might be annoying for some users as well.

Looks like Mozilla has made some changes in its mobile browser's address bar. Users have started seeing a cleaner and shortened URL, just like what is there in Google Chrome or Apple Safari. This means it shows https://www.hindustantimes.com as just hindustantimes.com. To see the complete URL, you would have to tap on the address bar. It is worth adding that the address bar doesn't shorten all the URLs. The sub domains like outlook.live.com or mail.google.com appear the same.

Although this saves some space on the smartphone screen, it might be annoying for some users as well. That's because some like to see how they are connected to the website. And tapping in the address bar every time might be annoying.

Talking about browsers, Microsoft's Edge browser recently beat Firefox to take the second spot as per NetMarketShare. Google Chrome continues to be the top browser with 71% market share while Microsoft Edge's went up from 0.87% in June to 8.46% in July. Firefox which still takes the third place actually dropped to 7.27% in July. The browser had 7.58% share in June.

The battle browser seems to be between Firefox and Edge now. Google Chrome is still untouchable and would need a lot of time for either of the browsers to catch up. It's worth mentioning that Microsoft has been aggressively pushing its Edge browser to users, especially on Windows 10. Chrome also occasionally “advertises” Chrome among users.

The list continues with Internet Explorer in fourth place with 5.99% share followed by Apple's Safari with 2.95% share.
