Instagram now allows users to mute accounts
You can choose to mute posts, stories or both altogether.
Facebook-owned Instagram has rolled out a new feature that allows users to mute some accounts so that they can continue following them without having to stumble upon their posts repeatedly.
"When you mute an account, you can still see posts on their profile page and get notified about comments or posts you're tagged in. The accounts you mute will not be aware that you've muted them," Instagram said in a blog post on Wednesday.
This feature will expand the user-control over Instagram's algorithmic feed that prioritises accounts and posts according to user-interests. You can also go back and unmute the same account anytime you want.
You can mute an account by going to the Settings menu on the app. You can mute the account by pressing and holding on a story or by going to their profile. You can then choose between muting posts, stories or both, posts and stories of other people and pages.
Instagram will be rolling out this feature to all users in the coming weeks. Recently, Instagram had rolled out the ability to share posts to Stories. It had also introduced an emoji slider for Stories.
