Making headway in the Americas appeared to be order of the day for Nintendo, with this edition of the regular broadcast made later than usual, at a time better suited to viewers in the New World than their European or Japanese contemporaries.
With 'Mario Kart 8' next up on Nintendo's list of big name releases, February's Nintendo Direct saw company president Satoru Iwata reveal release dates for the driving game: May 29 in Japan, May 29 in Australia, and May 30 in North America and European regions.
Additionally, the six Koopaling characters will become part of the kart racing series for the first time.
The gang was reintroduced in 'New Super Mario Bros. Wii' back in 2009 and has popped up in both 'New Super Mario Bros. 2' and 'New Super Mario Bros. U' since.
Usually associated with serial antagonist Bowser, in 'Mario Kart 8' they'll be able to act as counterparts to baby versions of Mario, Luigi, Peach and Daisy.
A new trailer was released shortly after the Nintendo Direct broadcast, showcasing two minutes' worth of 'Mario Kart 8' twisty tracks, spectacular stunts and classic characters.
