Motorola on Monday launched two new smartphones, Motorola One and Moto G7, in India. Aimed at mid-range and budget consumers, Motorola will compete with the likes of Xiaomi, Realme and other smartphone players in the segment.

Priced at 13,999, Motorola One comes with improved design and upgraded specifications. Not to be confused with Moto One Power, Motorola One runs on Google's Android One platform. The smartphone is set to take on Xiaomi's flagship Redmi smartphone, Redmi Note 7 Pro which is available in India at a starting price of 13,999.

Here's a comparison between the two new phones.

Design

Redmi Note 7-series marks Xiaomi's big departure from metal unibody design. The latest smartphone series comes with glass back panel with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. On the front it has a smaller dot notch with higher screen-to-body aspect ratio. Motorola One also joins a growing list of premium-design phones with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass. The phone, however, uses the traditional boat-shaped notch on the front. If you are looking for peppier colour options, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro has more to offer with modern gradient design. Motorola One is available only in black and white colour options.

Camera

With 48-megapixel rear sensor, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro has clearly a big advantage over the competition including the latest Moto G7 in the camera department. As explained in our detailed camera review, Redmi Note 7 Pro is among the best camera phones in the market right now. The phone uses Sony IMX586 sensor under the hood for higher resolution. The default camera mode is at 12-megapixel. Motorola One lags behind in the resolution game with a 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel setup.

Performance

Motorola One runs on Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor with up to 4GB of RAM. Interestingly enough, there are a lot of smartphones with much superior Qualcomm chips in this price range. Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro offers much faster and latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor with 4GB of RAM. There's also a 6GB RAM with 128GB storage model.

What sets Motorola One apart from the competition is the Google's Android One platform. The phone offers near-stock Android experience with the latest Android Pie out-of-the-box. The UI will most likely please the Android purists. Xiaomi, however, offers custom MIUI ROM. The beta version of the custom ROM is a bit slower than expected.

Motorola One has a 3,000mAh battery while Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro has a bigger 4,000mAh battery. Both the phones support fast charging. Motorola, however, bundles the fast Turbo charger with the phone.

Summing up,

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro clearly has more to offer than Motorola One, at least in terms of specifications. The Xiaomi phone offers the latest processor and a 48-megapixel camera that really works. But if you want pure Android experience and don't have the patience for flash sales, Motorola One may be the phone for you.
