Nokia 8, HMD Global’s much-awaited flagship smartphone, has finally landed in India. Here’s everything you need to know about the smartphone.
The much-awaited Nokia 8, HMD Global's flagship smartphone, launched in India on Tuesday. Priced at ₹36, 999, the highlights of the phone include a dual-camera setup developed in collaboration with Carl Zeiss, Dual-Sight mode that allows you to access both rear and front cameras at the same time, and OZO technology for a 360-degree audio experience. The smartphone will be available across offline and online via Amazon India from October 14.
The Nokia 8 is the fourth Nokia-branded smartphone from HMD Global. The company has so far launched Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones, which primarily focused on budget and mid-range categories. The Nokia 8 will be competing against a range of premium Android smartphones such as the OnePlus 5, Honor 8 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S8, and Sony Xperia XZ1. The Nokia 8 retains the design language adopted for the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6, but comes with subtle improvements. Elements such as the corners are now more curved with improved build quality. The Nokia 8 boasts of unibody metal design featuring 6000 series aluminium.
The phone has a 5.3-inch IPS QHD display with 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution, 2.5D Glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It ships with Android Nougat 7.1.1 out-of-the-box and is guaranteed to receive Android 8.0 Oreo and other key software updates in the future. Powered by Qualcomm's top-end Snapdragon 835 processor, it is coupled with 4GB of RAM. The company is rumoured to be working on a 6GB variant of the smartphone as well.
It sports a dual-camera setup with two 13-megapixel sensors. The first sensor comes with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and colour mode, whereas the second one has the monochrome colour mode. Other important camera features include phase detection autofocus (PDAF), f/2.0 aperture and dual-tone flash. For selfies, it has a 13-megapixel sensor on the front with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and display flash support.
A new camera mode, dubbed "Bothie", gives you access to the rear and front cameras simultaneously. With the phone's OZO audio technology you can capture 360-degree audio with bare minimum ambient noise. HMD Global claims the same technology is used by Hollywood filmmakers and music producers.
For connectivity, the Nokia 8 supports dual-SIM, 3.5mm audio port, Near Field Connectivity (NFC), GPS, and LTE Cat. 9. It is powered by a 3,090mAh battery.
