Being prepared for a Japanese release later this month, the LED Light Bulb Speaker comes with an app, a remote control, and a bluetooth speaker built in to its housing.
Part of Sony's Life Space UX concept line, each LED Light Bulb Speaker totes a brightness measurement of 360 lumens emitted by its 7W cylindrical bulb, in addition to a 2W, 40mm speaker nestled in front.
A smartphone app and a remote control dial can be paired via NFC so that either can be used to direct both brightness and playback.
Sony Japan's announcement suggests that the sight and sound crossover could be pleasantly installed in kitchens and washrooms, on nightstands, as reading lights, over dinner table configurations or in romantic settings.
With a May 23 release set for the ¥23,880 ($199 USD) bulb, visitors to Sony's showrooms in Ginza, Nagoya and Osaka can preview it in person from May 13.
