Elon Musk's Tesla cars have exhibited exceptional safety measures over the last decade. hence, it comes as surprising when Tesla orders a mega recall of two of its most popular vehicles. The company is recalling most of its Model S and Model 3 sedans sold so far over two unrelated issues. The repairs and fixes will be made free of charge.

Tesla has so far issued a recall of a total of 475,318 Model 3 and Model S sedans by December 21. By mid-February 2022, a total of 119,009 units of Model S and a total number of 356,309 Model 3 sedans are expected to be recalled. Although Tesla has not revealed the exact repair jobs, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has revealed the same.

Tesla mega recall for Model 3, Model S

The NHTSA says, “Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling all 2017-2020 Model 3 vehicles. The rearview camera cable harness may be damaged by the opening and closing of the trunk lid, preventing the rearview camera image from displaying.”

“Tesla Service will inspect and install a guide protector and new cable harness as necessary, free of charge,” adds the press release.

The other recalled vehicle is the Tesla Model S that has concerns related to its front trunk release. “Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2014-2021 Model S vehicles. The front trunk latch assembly may be misaligned, preventing the secondary hood latch from engaging. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 113, Hood Latch System,” says the NHTSA.

“Tesla Service will inspect and reposition the latch assembly as necessary, free of charge,” adds the NHTSA.

Tesla is also expected to bring its EVs to India very soon. A couple of Model 3 sedans have been found testing on Indian roads and there have been sightings of Tesla superchargers as well.
