Xiaomi covers its branding with ‘Made in India’ banners
Xiaomi India MD Manu Kumar Jain doesn't believe that anti-China sentiment will have a major impact on the company
Xiaomi has started covering the branding of its retail store in India with ‘Made in India' banners. The company, as per reports, has also asked the employees at its retail stores to not wear uniforms fearing miscreants might try to damage the stores or attack employees amid the growing anti-China sentiment in the country.
The development comes as the All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA) wrote a letter to Chinese retailers in the country including Oppo, Motorola, Lenovo, OnePlus, Realme and Vivo to tone down their branding in face of potential violence by the people. “Mi (Xiaomi) has started putting 'Made in India' banners in white colour on its boards," Arvinder Khurana, National President, AIMRA, said in a statement to IANS.
“We are requesting that if tomorrow some boards get damaged, the security deposit of retailers should not be forfeited or they should not be made to pay for it," he added.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi India MD Manu Kumar Jain in a series of tweets highlighted the “Indian-ness” of the company. “Super proud to share that majority of our TVs are #MadeInIndia! Flag of India...We employ thousands of team members across our #India factories. Factory #ProudIndian,” he wrote in one tweet.

Jain in an interview with CNBC-TV18 had also said that he didn't expect the present circumstances to have a major impact on the company. “We are more indian than any of them because all our phones are made in india, most of our TVs are made in india, our power banks are made in india. And not just made in india but even the components are locally sourced,” he said.
