The Redmi Note 4G was launched in November last year and has been one of Xiaomi's runaway successes in the country. Exact figures are unavailable, but it is estimated that the company sold tens of thousands of handsets in just a few weeks in flash sales on Flipkart.
Why is Xiaomi discounting a product that was already priced dirt-cheap to begin with? One word: competition. The last few months have seen at least a dozen new smartphones entering the crowded Indian market. These handsets are typically budget handsets, usually offering mid to high-end hardware at prices that are usually under ₹ 10,000. The recently launched K3 Note from Lenovo, for instance, is priced at ₹ 9,999 and has much better tech specs than the Redmi Note 4G.
If you're in the market for a phablet -- you know, those gigantic phones that everyone seems to carry these days -- the Redmi Note 4G is now one of the cheapest options.
