Minecraft Cave update: Mojang has a sweet surprise for Minecraft players. Mojang has released a new version of Minecraft beta update for Windows 10, Xbox One and Android device owners. This new Minecraft Bedrock beta 1.17.40.20 update brings hosts of changes to Minecraft including new features, updates to existing features and bug fixes. The update also includes new experimental features including Stony Peaks to Minecraft’s platform.

Let’s talk about the experimental features first. Mojang has added a new mountain biome called Stony Peaks, which the company says is a variant of lofty/snow-capped peaks that uses stone and gravel instead of snow and ice, and is used to avoid temperature clashes such as a snow-capped peak sticking up from a jungle.

Apart from that, Minecraft Bedrock beta 1.17.40.20 update brings corrected vegetation in Mountain Meadows, correct feature places to match the Java Edition side-snapshot in Mountain Biomes, tweaked biome placement, river size, and terrain shapes for a better overworld experience, and tweaked mob spawning in mountain and cave biomes to match the Java Edition side-snapshot. Additionally, the company said that the Dripstone Clusters can now only be found in the Dripstone biome and the Dripstone features now only generate in Dripstone biome at Deepslate depths, which now generates at lower depths. The company has made changes so that the Infested Stone can be found under new mountains and Maps correctly shows the colors of blocks below a Y level of zero.

Mojang in its blog post sharing the update also said that in the Minecraft Bedrock beta 1.17.40.20 update, vines can now generate in Lush Caves instead of generating above the surface and grow down below zero height while the villages now generate in the style of the biome they are located in.

Talking about the non-experimental features, the game-maker said that the falling stalactites are now offset properly to avoid interacting with entities outside their intended hitbox and the beehives now generate in the world facing south. The company also said that pressing the 'use' button on a Candle Cake now consumes the correct amount of cake slices.

Apart from that players can no longer eat food at full hunger in Survival mode, seagrass no longer spawns under Lily Pads during world generation to avoid breaking them, villagers can no longer spam doors open and closed and cartographers now more consistently give new maps on all platforms. Mojang also said that Amethyst geodes are now much less likely to generate in Strongholds, and if they do they will not destroy End Portals and that the powder snow no longer disappears when looking at it from a distance.

Talking about bug fixes, Mojang said that it has fixed an issue where the d-pad and directional keys could not be used to navigate in certain parts of the UI and an issue where an error message could be shown after suspending the game on the achievements screens with screen animations disabled. It has also added space between tab title and the word 'Tab' for text-to-speech on Settings screen and fixed keyboard/d-pad navigation from custom server to edit server button among other things.
