A laptop on an e.go trip

Isn’t, necessarily, such a bad thing. But the over ambitious don’t always succeed.

Wipro, one of India's IT majors has stepped into a the lucrative netbook market. Here's their E.go 10 inch. The special thing here is that the netbook also comes under the tablet category, as we shall soon see.

Design
The cherry red netbook had a glossy metallic texture with the red extending to the internal wristrest. The keyboard and touch pad were black. The keyboard is about 90 per cent of a full size without any space between keys. The tactile feel is good and the keys have a firm flex response.

The touch pad is covered by a matte black slab, which is rough, and therefore, a boon to use. The buttons are separate metallic push buttons, which have a better ergonomic factor. The most important factor is that this screen rotates out 180 degrees and turns flat face up.

The screen is touch responsive, and works on fingers and stylus alike, except a stylus would be better for normal Windows OS as icon sizes are small. The latter is hidden inside the chassis and is accessible from the top panel.

Verdict
At a price of 27,990 this ambitious product does have one thing going for it, and that is the tablet avatar it dons. The screen response is quite nice, and with the stylus, it can be a great productivity enhancer. But the Intel used is of an older series, which makes the CPU performance of this netbook average.

The ergonomics are also good. Battery performance is right down the middle with about 3 hours and 45 minutes. It's still a 3 cell, and at the price a 6 cell could be bargained. A better colour could be purchased, but if red floats your boat then go for it. It's a middle of the road gizmo.

What we like
Touch response works well with both stylus and hands
Good ergonomics

What we don't
Expensive, as the processor is still an Atom N270
