After shocking the world by terminating 900 employees on a Zoom call, Better.com CEO Vishal Garg has apologised by saying he "blundered the execution". Garg had been panned on the social media after the Zoom call with employees went viral, for his total lack of sensitivity during the call when he sacked hundreds of employees at one go, leaving everyone as much shocked as surprised. The Softbank-backed CEO, has done a U-turn of sorts now by tendering an apology, but he has not taken back the sacking order even now.

Better.com CEO Vishal Garg, in his letter, wrote, “I own the decision to do the layoffs, but in communicating it I blundered the execution.” Garg's apology letter was posted on Better.Com website.

He went on to say that, “I am deeply sorry and am committed to learning from this situation and doing more to be the leader that you expect me to be.”

What had surprised everyone was that Vishal Garg had sacked the 900 employees just a day after a massive cash infusion of $750 million of immediate bridge financing in Better from a company called Aurora Acquisition Corp. Better plans to list through a merger with Aurora.

However, the next day, Garg told employees on a Zoom call that he came with “not great news” as the market had changed and the company had “to move with it in order to survive,” Bloomberg reported. He then announced the mass layoffs. The leaks affected employees in the US as well as in India.

Garg had said that it had been a challenging decision and one he didn't want to make.

Since then the prominent faces to leave Better.Com are its head of marketing and vice president of communications, according to the Daily Beast and thereafter its heads of communications and public relations too stepped down.
