Barbie gets digital with Photo Fashion Doll

The Barbie Photo Fashion Doll has the same characteristics as the famous Barbie with an additional high-tech twist, a built-in digital camera in the body of the doll. Children can take pictures using the doll which will then be displayed across the front of her T-shirt giving her a unique style.

On February 14 Mattel unveiled Barbie's latest incarnation at the Toy Fair in New York the Barbie Photo Fashion Doll, with a built-in digital camera.

The Barbie Photo Fashion Doll has the same characteristics as the famous Barbie with an additional high-tech twist, a built-in digital camera in the body of the doll. Children can take pictures using the doll which will then be displayed across the front of her T-shirt giving her a unique style.

The doll, which can store around 100 images, can also be connected to a computer via USB slot in order to download, or edit the snaps using the Barbie website.

The doll ties into Mattel's new advertising campaign for Barbie and the February 9 launch of BarbieWow.com.

The Barbie Wow website follows on from the 'Barbie Dream Closet' installation at this year's New York Fashion Week, an 836 square meter closet that showcased designer outfits and let fans try on clothes from 'Barbie's closet' using an augmented reality app. Visitors to BarbieWow.com can browse through Barbie's closet, share design inspiration, try on clothes using an augmented reality display (requires a webcam) and take part in regular Barbie styling challenges.

The Barbie Photo Fashion Doll will be available in stores from August 2012 and retail for around $50.
