Elon Musk's mysterious human-brain-meets-AI company Neuralink is set to make a major announcement next month. The news comes as a courtesy of the Tesla CEO who took to Twitter to share the news.

“Progress update August 28,” Musk wrote in a tweet. He also shared the company's new motto, which says, “If you can't beat em, join em.” However, Neuralink's official Twitter handle didn't say anything about its upcoming announcement.

The event or the announcement that is scheduled to take place on August 28 will give a rare glimpse into what one of Musk's mysterious companies, which was launched back in 2016 with the aim of developing interfaces to connect human brains with computers, has been up to.

Neuralink hosted its first major event in August last year wherein it showed a sensor called N1 that uses 1024 electrodes that are thinner than human hair to read spikes in neurons. The setup, that aims to enable humans to use computers using their brains, would entail Neuralink to place four such electrodes in various parts of a brain. These electrodes would connect to a link consisting of a battery and a Bluetooth setup using inductive coils, making it easy to update the chips without accessing the sensors again.

At the event last year, Musk had said that the Neuralink team had successfully tested the sensor on a monkey.

Since then, the company has been silent about its workings so far. However, Musk, in a response to a tweet on Neuralink's capabilities, had teased that the next version of the technology would be ‘awesome.” “Wait until you see the next version vs what was presented last year. It's *awesome*,” the maverick CEO had written in its tweet back in February this year.

With Musk using the words “progress update” and “awesome” one can guess that the company has had a major breakthrough. We will have to wait until August 8 to find out the details.
