Instagram is expanding Account Status. Check the latest update here. (Unsplash)

Instagram, one of the most widely used social networking platforms, specially by the youngsters has announced Account Status Update. With the help of the update you will be able to know if your posts are barred from being recommended to others like non-followers, in Explore, among others. The new tool will inform Instagram users if there are restrictions on their account because they broke certain recommendation rules.

The information was provided by Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, over his Twitter account. "Account Status Update We're expanding Account Status so professional accounts can understand if their content may be eligible to be recommended to non-followers. Here's how to get to it: Profile -> Menu -> Settings -> Account -> Account Status," the tweet read.

He also shared a short clipping of him explaining the update. "Today we are announcing new transparency tools so you can see whether or not your photos and videos are recommended in places like Explore. Now we know reach can be volatile you can see how many people you reach go up and down and in over time," he said.

Mosseri further explained that one of the reasons that happens is sometimes Instagram user's account can end up in a state where it's not eligible for their photos and videos to show up in recommendations- so at the end of Feed or in Explore or in other places where the app surface photos and videos from people you do not follow. So if you go to account status, if you go to profile, settings, account, you can see it there.

"And you have historically been able to see any photos or videos that you have posted that have been taken down because they violate our community standards, or community guidelines. What we've added is also whether or not your account can be recommended in places like Explore, because if you have posted things that violate our recommendability guidelines, or recommendation guidelines, which are different, you can end up in a state where your content won't be recommended," Mosseri added.

Instagram users can edit that content, delete it or appeal, if they disagree. "Now, this is one more way we're trying to be transparent about how reach works on Instagram, because we know it's important for creators to understand how Instagram works if they are going to use it for the long run. Just a few steps to try to make Instagram the best place for creators," he said.
