Pinterest a new social network has in recent times become a huge hit with social media users who are hooked on to the idea of 'pinning' photos based on various topics to virtual pinboard's created by the company. The idea is that users can upload/gather images on a similar topic and curate them for the world at large to admire.
However, to protect user photos, Flickr has added a new code with "do not pin" features, basically an opt-out code for the sites users while uploading pictures they own and do not wish to share. Only content that is public and does not have copyright issues can be pinned to Pinterest.
In a public statement Flickr posted they stated "Flickr takes privacy and content ownership very seriously and is committed to continue to build features that protect members' photos and videos. Flickr has implemented the tag and it appears on all non-public/non-safe pages, as well as when a member has disabled sharing of their Flickr content. This means only content that is 'safe,' 'public,' and has the sharing button (e.g., also for Facebook, Twitter) enabled can be pinned to Pinterest."
