Google now lets you do just that with the latest update to Gmail. Going forward, senders can make a call to the recipient, or vice versa, from within the the Gmail app.

Google says that the update now lets users make audio and video calls right from the within the app. On the Gmail app, users can now see the audio and video call options under the chats tab. Once a user clicks on any of these options, they will be able to make a one-on-one call with the concerned person. Google hasn't allowed group calls on its platform yet.
