Google's Daydream is over, support for the VR platform officially ends with Android 11
Google had pretty much abandoned the project but an official announcement was yet to be made. And now it is finally here.
Google had launched its virtual reality (VR) platform Daydream in 2016 and had also introduced their own View headset in the market. The View headset was updated a year after and apps started gradually becoming available for the platform till many of them stopped receiving updates and/or dropped support for Daydream entirely.
Google had pretty much abandoned the project but an official announcement was yet to be made. And now it is finally here.
“Daydream VR software is no longer supported. You may still be able to access the service, but it won't receive any more software or security updates,” Google wrote under the Daydream Help section.
This is Google finally announcing that its VR platform is dead after officially killing its Play Movies & TV app for Daydream in June 2019 and losing support for Hulu just after that.

Google also added that the Daydream VR app is no longer supported by Google and it also may not work properly on some devices running Android 11 or later.
However, for those still hanging around, Google has mentioned that many of the third-party apps and experiences within Daydream may still be available as standalone apps in the Google Play store and users will not lose account information or functionality for third-party apps as a result of Daydream no longer being supported by Google.
The View headset is not available for purchase anymore either, but if you have one, Google says that you can still use that to watch VR content with a compatible viewer and controller.
