Moto RAZR 2019, Motorola’s first foldable phone spotted ahead of launch
Motorola’s flip phone is set to make a comeback but with a foldable twist. Here’s what we know about Motorola RAZR 2019.
Samsung Galaxy Fold, the foldable phone that was supposed to revive the smartphone space, has been postponed after multiple reports of screen shattering and other defects. Galaxy Fold would have been the first major commercial foldable phone to hit the market. With people becoming more apprehensive about foldable phones, Motorola's next RAZR phone could finally revive interest in the new design.
Motorola RAZR 2019 is said to be a rebranded version of the classic flip phone from yesteryear but with a "foldable" twist. Ahead of the official launch, the new Motorola foldable phone has emerged online multiple times. The latest is a set of leaked images that give a closer look at the design of Moto RAZR foldable phone.
The new set features three renders of what's believed to be Moto RAZR. The images reveal Moto RAZR's fully opened screen with a wider notch on the top and hinges at the centre. There's a thicker chin at the base, reminding you of the classic RAZR phone. The images suggest you can flip to open the full screen of Moto RAZR and close it like the older flip phone. Unfortunately, renders don't give anything on how it looks when the device is closed.

It's highly likely Moto RAZR 2019 will offer a third screen to offer actionable notifications and other necessary information. This could be highly similar to secondary screens on recent LG smartphones. The display (fully opened) will be at 6.2-inch, not bigger than modern smartphones. The OLED panel will sport 876 x 2142. The secondary display is expected to come with 600 x 800 resolution.
As far as specifications go, Moto RAZR 2019 doesn't beat the best that's available right now. It's expected to run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor with 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB RAM and storage variants.
Right now, there's no word on the availability of the phone yet but multiple reports have said it will launch this year. Motorola may take its own time to launch the phone considering Samsung's bitter experience with the commercial units even before the launch. Other confirmed foldable phone, Huawei Mate X is also expected to launch in a few weeks.
