5G is here but you still can't see 5G in your city or area? Network operators will need a couple of months to set up the infrastructure for a wider coverage of the 5g network. Jio, however, wants to provide an early taste of 5G networks to most people via the route of Wi-Fi. Starting today, the telecom operator has launched a new 5G powered Wi-Fi service in Nathdwara, Rajasthan. The idea is to provide 5G speeds to users via Wi-Fi networks in key areas.

Jio is rolling out the JioTrue5G-powered Wi-Fi services in areas of high footfall such as Educational Institutes, Religious places, Railway Stations, Bus stands, Commercial Hubs and more. This way, more people can enjoy the benefits of 5G network across congested areas where current 4G network might struggle. Additionally, it also helps Reliance Jio to test the network capacity and fine tune its services to offer faster speeds to its users.

Jio 5G powered WI-Fi to come to more cities

Note that the Jio 5G powered Wi-Fi service will be an additional service along with the Jio 5G mobile network and the Jio Welcome Offer. Hence, the 5G network, which has been launched in select cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Varanasi, will continue to get better and expand rapidly across the country. Chennai is the newest addition to the list.

Jio's 5G powered Wi-Fi services will be available for free to all Reliance Jio customers without any charge. Non-Jio users will also be able to access the 5G service in these Wi-Fi hotspots but they won't be getting the “full and unlimited” experience. Does that mean the speeds will be reduced and the data capacity will be limited?

Jio's 5G network has shown promising results in early speed tests. Compared to Airtel's 5G network, Jio's 5G network is usually offering up to 400-500 Mbps speeds. This makes for much faster internet speeds than the current 4G speeds. Jio is using the Standalone 5G network, which means it is relying entirely on 5G infrastructure and does not rely on 4G as a backup to offer more coverage. Jio had earlier said that the 5G services will reach most of India by March 2024.
