MediaTek Dimensity 720 5G chip for mid-tier phones launched

MediaTek’s new processor brings 90HZ screen refresh rate and up to 64-megapixel camera. Here are other key things to know about the new Dimesnity 720 processor.

MediaTek on Thursday announced the launch of Dimensity 720 processor. The new chip is aimed to bring 5G experience to mid-tier smartphones.

MediaTek Dimensity 720 processor supports 90Hz high frame-rate displays. It aims to optimise the video experience through a MiraVision HDR 10+ video playback. The technology supports a variety of video features such as popular dynamic range remapping.

The processor supports up to 64-megapixel camera resolution. It can also work with a camera configuration of 20-megapixel and 16-megapixel dual cameras. The chip comes with integrated with MediaTek's APU.

There is also an Integrated Voice Wakeup (VoW) which aims to reduce power consumption for services such as always-on voice assistant. It also has dual-mic noise suppression for better voice calling experience.

Dimensity 720 also has support for AI app and improved responsiveness for the applicants. In terms of specifications, it consists of two ARM Cortex A76 cores clocked at 2GHz in an octa-core setup. The chipset is coupled with LPDDRM 4X memory and ARM Mali G57 class GPU.

Other important features of the new chipset including two carrier aggregation (2CC CA), Voice over New Radio (VoNR) and 5G and 4G dual SIM, dual standby (DSDS). It also has universal flash storage v2.2 for faster data sharing.

“The Dimensity 720 sets a new standard, delivering feature-packed 5G experiences and technology to devices that are more accessible to mass-market consumers. This chip is highly power-efficient, has impressive performance and advanced display and imaging technologies. All of that combined will help brands usher in differentiated 5G devices for consumers around the globe,” Dr Yenchi Lee, Deputy General Manager, Wireless Communications Business Unit, MediaTek said in a release.
