MS Dhoni most talked about player during IPL 2018: Facebook

Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings was named the most talked about IPL team followed by Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

With 425 million posts, comments, and reactions, the IPL 2018 saw the highest engagement on Facebook for any edition of IPL so far. MS Dhoni was the most talked about player during the IPL 2018 while his team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was the most talked about team this season, said Facebook in a report on the IPL 2018.

Facebook reveals that the return of the Thala and the updated Whistle Podu anthem was the most loved post of the tournament, while Mumbai Indians' bowler, Mustafizur Rahman's wishes for Bengali New Year was the second most loved post of the tournament.

The top most talked about IPL teams on Facebook were Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and SunRisers Hyderabad. The most talked about players were MS Dhoni (Chennai), Virat Kohli (Bangalore), Chris Gayle (Punjab), Rohit Sharma (Mumbai) and Suresh Raina (Chennai).

Ahead of the IPL 2018, Facebook had introduced a set of new features for Indian users. For instance, users could choose cricket text background, which, along with the other backgrounds enabled to post status messages. The social networking giant also had the teams launch Augmented Reality(AR) filters for their fans.

Facebook also disclosed that the teams like Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals built messenger bots that sent out updates about the players, upcoming matches, live scores and even links to buy tickets for matches and team merchandise.

The IPL 2018 is considered to be one of the biggest sporting events watched by internet users. Streaming application Hotstar earlier this week claimed it had set a world record of 10.3 million simultaneous online viewers. Hotstar said it used Akamai's cloud delivery platform to achieve 10 million concurrent viewers and finish the tournament with a peak of 10.3 million simultaneous users.
