Ola on Tuesday announced a strategic partnership with e-payment platform PhonePe. As a part of the partnership, PhonePe's e-wallet would be integrated within the Ola app. This would enable commutes who book a cab via the Ola app to pay for their rides using their PhonePe digital wallets.

The PhonePe e-wallet integration adds on to the host of digital payment options, which includes credit cards, debit cards, UPI payment options and Ola Money, that the company offers within its app.

Ola in a blog post announced that the development is a part of its Ride Safe India initiative as a part of which it is encouraging its customers to opt for digital payment options in order to minimise the risk of infection and ensure a zero-contact mobility experience.

Ola's newly announced feature is available only in its Android-based app as of now. The feature will arrive on its iOS based app soon. The company, however, didn't detail a timeline about the availability of the PhonePe payments option on its iOS app. Meanwhile, Android users can get this feature by updating their apps first and then following this thread: tap on the hamburger menu on top left corner of the app > go to Payments option > click on PhonePe.

As a part of the offer, Ola is offering a cashback of up to 200 to users on the first two rides when they pay for their commute using PhonePe.

“As we navigate through the pandemic, we have noticed a significant increase in the adoption of digital payment solutions. With commute being one of the largest spend categories for customers, we wanted to encourage this shift through value-added services to ensure them superlative as well as safe mobility experiences,” Ola spokesperson Anand Subramanian said on the occasion.
