Samsung announced the launch of GALAXY Note in the Indian market at a press event in New Delhi. Samsung GALAXY Note features a 5.3' display, the largest screen size for any smartphone in the market, and positions itself as a cross between a smartphone and a 7" tablet.

The expansive high-resolution, 1280x800 screen with HD Super AMOLED display (Samsung calls it the world's first and largest) provides and immersive experience. Like all Samsung smartphones, the display is very vivid and the display size allows you to view more in one glance with minimum scrolling and screen transitions. However, the phone hardly fits into the palm due to the large size, although it is very thin at just 9.65mm with a nice finish. When you hold the GALAXY Note in one hand, the thumb cannot make it to about an inch on the opposite side, and so one hand operations like when you are driving are hard, and almost impossible.

GALAXY Note not only differentiates itself in the mobile device market in form factor, but also provides you with the ability to freely capture and create ideas anywhere and everywhere using a stylus, the Smart Pen. Samsung features an advanced pen input technology combined with full touch screen to create a unique mobile input experience. The S Pen allows for a natural note-taking, annotating, and drawing experience using pressure sensitivity, preciseness, speed and other factors. The S Pen functionality is deeply integrated into the GALAXY Note's native applications. While styluses dies a quick death with the fading away of Windows Mobile and Palm smartphones, Samsung insists it provides a richer interactive experience in several scenarios and GALAXY Note could be their second coming.

"GALAXY Note is a revolutionary product that seeks to open a new category in the mobile industry. While the GALAXY Note's large screen provides a beautiful, immersive viewing experience, the touch screen and advanced Smart Pen interface allows users to sketch, write, create and share more than ever before from one device."

The paradigm shift in terms of size and input experience apart, GALAXY Note has a powerful chassis. Running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), it has 1.4 GHz dual core processor and 16 GB memory, while allowing microSD cards up to 32 GB. The 8 MP rear camera includes LED flash and allows 1080p HD video recording.

Samsung also announced the launch of 'S Choice' category of Samsung Apps. These are applications specially designed for GALAXY Note's Smart Pen feature. The device ships with S Planner, a smart and intuitive scheduler that works as a comprehensive professional planning tool, S Memo, a note-taking app, and several other similar apps.

Samsung GALAXY Note will be available in the Indian market this week at an MRP of INR 34, 990. It intends to redefine mobile input experience and create a new category in the mobile market.GALAXY Note doesn't fail to offer a productive and creative user experience packed in a neat-looking device but it is left to see if consumers would adopt it to fill the void between smartphones or tablets, if there was one in the first place that is.
