On Monday, May 16, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal took to the microblogging platform to tweet about spam, the challenges in identifying the spam accounts and the company's efforts in stopping them. However, Elon Musk, who has been delaying the final purchase of the platform citing lack of due diligence in identifying the total percentage of bots on the platform, seemed rather unimpressed by the Twitter CEO's explanations. The Tesla chief went on to respond to the tweets in a shocking manner. Read on to know what Musk did. Also read: Elon Musk says Twitter deal will not go ahead without clarity on spam accounts.

Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal speaks about spam

Last week, Agrawal tweeted that he will be focusing on bringing transparency to “ongoing, continuous, and challenging work our teams are doing to improve the public conversation on Twitter”. As a continuation to that, today he posted a series of tweets on spam and why the company has not been able to eradicate it entirely. He also spoke about how it is difficult to identify spamming accounts. Many, including Elon Musk, were seen criticizing the explanations.

“First, let me state the obvious: spam harms the experience for real people on Twitter, and therefore can harm our business. As such, we are strongly incentivized to detect and remove as much spam as we possibly can, every single day. Anyone who suggests otherwise is just wrong,” said Parag Agrawal.

However, he also explained that it is not easy to identify spam accounts as “most advanced spam campaigns use combinations of coordinated humans + automation. They also compromise real accounts, and then use them to advance their campaign. So – they are sophisticated and hard to catch”. Agarwal added that Twitter suspends more than 500K spam accounts every day but admitted that despite due diligence which include tracking data like IP address, phone number, geolocation etc., it is not possible to find out all the spam accounts. To this, Musk replied with, “Have you tried just calling them?”. Also read: Amid Elon Musk Twitter takeover, CEO Parag Agrawal sends this Shocking email to staff.

Elon Musk replies to Parag Agrawal's tweets with a Pile of Poo emoji

Finally, speaking on Twitter's official statement that the total bot accounts on the platform comprise below 5% of all accounts, Agrawal said that the estimation cannot be performed externally as they require both private and public data which the company cannot share. He added that externally, it is not even possible to know which accounts are considered mDAU (monetizable daily active users) on any given day.

Elon Musk responded to this particular tweet with a poo emoji. He also asked the Twitter CEO, “So how do advertisers know what they're getting for their money? This is fundamental to the financial health of Twitter”.

However, Agrawal has not responded to the shocking Elon Musk poo tweet so far.
