Spotify sees 80% spike in Friends playlist as fans gear up for the special reunion
Spotify also revealed that India is the top country when it comes to streaming the official Friends playlist.
Friends is back for a special reunion episode today 17 years after it ended. ‘Friends: The Reunion' will feature the original cast of the popular sitcom along with guest appearances. Ever since the announcement of the reunion, fans have gone crazy all over the world which we can clearly see on social media, and on Spotify too. Spotify has shared insights on how its users across the globe and in India have been preparing for the reunion.
It looks like Friends has the biggest fans in India when it comes to streaming the official ‘Friends' playlist on Spotify. India is followed by Turkey, Germany, USA and Brazil for the most streams on this playlist. The Friends playlist has also seen an 80% increase in the last week which is when the trailer for Friends: The Reunion was released. Spotify also witnessed streams on the Friends playlist 4,000% higher this year compared to three years ago, and over 200% higher than the same time last year.

The Gen Z listeners between the ages of 18-24 are streaming the official Friends playlist the most on Spotify, followed by the 25-29 age group. When it comes to songs, the iconic Friends theme song I'll be there for you by The Rembrandts has garnered over 137 million streams globally. Phoebe's Smelly Cat has also been streamed 1.5 million times, and this includes three versions of the song. The Smelly Cat Medley by Phoebe and the Hairballs is said to be the most popular version. Spotify also highlighted that there are around 1,800 Smelly Cat playlists created by users.
