Tech Wrap: Jio Platforms’ new investment, Chingari app downloads and more
More tech news include LinkedIn found copying text in iOS 14 beta, Motorola launching a new phone and PUBG Mobile doubling its lifetime revenue in 7 months.
The day started with Jio Platforms bagging yet another investment and this time from Intel Corporation. The TikTok-ban is still pretty fresh and the effect is reflecting on its rival apps. One of these is Chingari which has now crossed 10 million downloads on Google Play Store.
In case you were missing launches, Motorola launched a new smartphone which is Fusion One. PUBG Mobile also made news by doubling its lifetime revenue in just 7 months. Remember TikTok getting caught snooping on user data in iOS 14 beta? Turns out LinkedIn was also doing the same.
So here's a breakdown of everything that made news in tech today.
Jio Platforms investment
Jio today announced a new investment of ₹1,894.50 crore from Intel Corporation. This deal translates into a 0.39% equity stake in Jio Platforms on a fully diluted basis. The total investments in Jio Platforms now adds to ₹117,588.45 crore. Facebook was first to invest in Jio Platforms in April which was followed by global names investing in the company.
Chingari app downloads
Chingari app which is a homegrown TikTok clone has been seeing a spike in downloads ever since the ban on TikTok. It has so far garnered over 10 million downloads on Google Play Store. Chingari co-founder Sumit Ghosh also said that so far 148 million videos have been watched on Chingari.
Motorola One Fusion
Motorola One Fusion smartphone was launched in Latin America. The smartphone comes with a 6.5-inch HD+ display, Android 10, Snapdragon 710 processor and 4GB of RAM. It has a 48-megapixel primary camera at the rear, and an 8-megapixel pop-up selfie camera. There's no word on when Motorola One Fusion will launch in other markets including India.
PUBG Mobile revenue
PUBG Mobile has doubled its lifetime revenue to more than $3 billion in just seven months. This includes the combined revenue from Game For Peace in China where the game is known by that name. PUBG Mobile had even hit a peak revenue of $270 million in March owing to the Covid-19 lockdowns globally.
LinkedIn iOS 14 beta
iOS 14 beta revealed LinkedIn is also copying text from the iPhone's clipboard after every keystroke. iOS 14 has this security feature that notifies users when an app copies text. Previously TikTok was found doing the same thing after which it said a fix will be rolled out. LinkedIn also said a fix is coming soon for this issue.
