Elon Musk has completed his Twitter takeover and you could only expect a flurry of statement from the Tesla CEO. It has only been a few hours since Elon Musk entered the Twitter office in his iconic video, holding a sink in his hands and tweeting – Let that sink in! At the same time, reports in the media also confirm that Parag Agarwal, the CEO of Twitter, along with a couple of other top executives have been fired as well.

1. The latest tweet comes Musk states “The bird is freed”. This hints at Musk completing his Twitter takeover.

2. Musk also spoke on the reason behind his Twitter buyout. “The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence. There is currently great danger that social media with splinter into far rightwing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.”

3. Musk also says that he wants Twitter to be warm and welcoming to everyone, where you can choose the experience you seek. He does not want Twitter to be a “free-for-all hellscape”, where anybody can say anything without any consequence.

4. Musk also spoke about advertising on Twitter. “I also very much believe that advertising, when done right, can delight, entertain and inform you; it can show you a service or product or medical treatment that you never knew existed, but is right for you. For this to be true, it is essential to show Twitter users advertising that is as relevant as possible to their needs, Low relevancy ads are spam, but highly relevant ads are actually content.”

5. Musk also speaks about the concept of citizen journalism and its effect on news. “A beautiful thing about Twitter is how it empowers citizen journalism – people are able to disseminate news without an establishment bias.” When asked whether he considers local news citizen journalism, Musk said that local news organisations are under appreciated and should get way more prominence on Twitter.
