Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook says he's “grateful” for the Supreme Court's 6-3 decision that protects gay and transgender workers from job discrimination.

Cook said in a tweet that LGBTQ people deserve equal treatment in the workplace. The executive wrote in a 2014 essay for Businessweek that he was “proud to be gay” and has been a constant champion of the LGBTQ community.

The decision could have a broad legal impact as more than half of U.S. states don't cover sexual orientation and gender identity through their own anti-discrimination laws.
