1/5 Why does WhatsApp compress pictures while sharing it? This happens because in the Settings of the application the photo upload quality is set on auto by default, and therefore, the quality of the image while sharing depends on several factors like the internet connection, size of the image, and more. The app therefore, looks to downsize the image, which affects its quality. (PTI)

Know about the expected WhatsApp features that can be launched in 2023. (AFP)

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used online messaging applications. Like every other application, WhatsApp keeps on launching new features and updating itself in order to provide a seamless user experience. To mark the beginning of the year 2023, the messaging app launched a WhatsApp proxy. It simply means that now people have the power to maintain access to the app if their connection is blocked or disrupted. The online messaging application also introduced community feature, message yourself, among others in 2022.

WhatsApp is expected to launch several new features in 2023 to enhance the user experience. Here are some of the expected features that can be launched this year:

1. Call tab on WhatsApp desktop

WhatsApp can bring a dedicated call tab for the desktop version of the app. According to a report by Live Mint, with the help of the feature, WhatsApp users will be able to track and possibly sync the data of WhatsApp calls with mobile and web applications. As of now, this feature is available for some WhatsApp beta for Windows users.

2. Picture-in-Picture for video calls on iOS (PIP)

WhatsApp can be used by both- the Android and iOS users. However, sometimes, a feature is made available to Android first and later to iOS and vice-versa. The Picture-in-Picture for video calls is already available for Android users and is expected to release for iOS soon. The PIP feature will allow users to multitask or use other applications while staying on a WhatsApp call.

3. View once text

WhatsApp users must be aware of the view once feature with the help of which they can share media files which can be seen only for one time. Similar to the feature, WhatsApp is now likely to roll out the view once text feature. The feature will delete the text messages once the receipt checks the message. It will let users keep their text conversations private and secure.

4. Companion mode

Currently, there is no option to use the same WhatsApp account on two different services or multiple devices. In 2023, WhatsApp is expected to launch the companion mode, with the help of which users will get the option to link and sync their WhatsApp data and use the app with the same profile on several phones. It will also let the users use the same WhatsApp profile simultaneously across Android and iOS devices.
