Taking selfies with your phone is no longer considered odd. A lot of credit for the growing selfie craze should go to the rapid evolution of the front camera in the last decade. From the front LED flash to dual-front cameras and portrait modes, modern phones have a lot to offer in this regard. And the improvement in front cameras has only helped people make more video calls over WhatsApp, Skype and Facebook Messenger.

Nowadays, every other smartphone company claims to offer the best selfie phone, making it hard for you to arrive at a decision. Note that just bumping up camera megapixels don't necessarily result into great photos. Camera quality depends on various factors, including sensors, processing and software algorithms under the hood. Also, when you're looking for a new phone with a better front camera, don't overlook the importance of a good chipset, RAM and other things that ensure an end-to-end user experience.

If you're looking for a smartphone with a good selfie camera but don't want to spend a bomb on it, here's a list for you.

Vivo V9

Vivo V9 is quite a good looking smartphone with an ultra-slim profile. Also, it has an iPhone X-like notch with a higher screen-to-body ratio. The smartphone comes with a 6.3-inch full HD+ FullView Display with 19:9 aspect ratio, and a whopping 90% screen-to-body ratio. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 octa-core processor with 4GB of RAM. The phone comes with 64GB of built-in storage and supports expandable storage of up to 256GB. Just like Vivo V9, Oppo F7 also comes with an iPhone X-like notch screen while delivering a higher screen-to-body ratio. The smartphone is available in Solar Red, Moonlight Silver and Diamond Black.

The Oppio F7 stands out for its AI-based 25-megapixel front camera that has f/2.0 aperture. The smartphone comes with the company's AI Beauty 2.0 for improved selfies. You can take photos in Portrait mode with the selfie camera. There are also a few AR stickers. A Vivid Mode allows the phone to automatically optimise the selfies depending upon your outfit and backdrop. The preloaded AI also learns and edits photos in accordance with your preferences.

Apart from the solid front camera, Oppo F7 comes with 6.23-inch full HD+ display. It is powered by MediaTek's Helio P60 octa-core processor.
