Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is asking everyone to download the Signal app as protests in the wake of the death of George Flyod gain momentum in the US.

“Download Signal app,” the Twitter CEO, who decided to flag US President Donald Trump's decision about glorifying violence on May 25, wrote in a tweet.

His tweet came as the app became one of the top 10 most downloaded social apps on iOS in the US for the first time, data from a mobile data analytics company App Annie showed.

According to a report by Recode, the app has been downloaded 121,000 times in the US and it often sees a spike in download amid politically challenging times. The report also noted that last time Signal saw a spike in downloads was on President Trump's inauguration day.

To give you some idea about the app, Signal, just like Telegram, is a messaging app that comes with features such as messaging, voice calling and video calling. Calls and messages on its platform are end-to-end encrypted which keeps the communication within the app safe in case the phone is lost, stolen or confiscated. It is also one of the reasons it is popular among protestors as it prevents police interception.
