Twitter launches custom Diwali emoji

Twitter brings back the diya for its new Diwali emoji that can be activated using different hashtags.

Twitter today announced the launch of a customised emoji for Diwali. The new Diwali emoji can be activated with dedicated hashtags on Twitter, and it's available in different regional languages as well.

The Diwali emoji features a hand holding out a diya. It is optimised for both light and dark mode on Twitter. The Diwali emoji can be activated with the hashtags #LightUpALife, #EkZindagiKaroRoshan, #HappyDiwali, #HappyDeepavali, #Diwali, #Deepavali, #दिवाली, #दीपावली, #शुभदीपावली, #શુભદિવાળી, #शुभदीपावळी, #শুভদীপাবলি, #ਦਿਵਾਲੀਮੁਬਾਰਕ, #ଶୁଭ ଦୀପାବଳି, #దీపావళిశుభాకాంక్షలు, #தீபாவளிநல்வாழ்த்துக்கள், #ದೀಪಾವಳಿಹಬ್ಬದಶುಭಾಷಯಗಳು, #ദീപാവലിആശംസകള്‍.

Twitter regularly introduces customised emojis for important occasions, festivals and events. It has custom emojis for major Indian festivals such as Ganesh Chathurti, Eid, Vishu, and Guru Nanak Jayanti. Twitter launched the first Diwali emoji back in 2015. Twitter has also launched a virtual ‘ladoo' that users can share as a conversation card. Users can tap on the ‘Tweet #ALadoo' prompt to share the conversation card.

This Diwali, as people come together in celebration, be it physically or virtually, with our new emoji we want to encourage them to continue to #LightUpALife with positive conversations and acts of kindness,” Manish Maheshwari, Managing Director, Twitter India said on the new Diwali emoji

Twitter India has also partnered with NGOs such as Let Me Breathe, the Observer Research Foundation, Social Media Matters, and the School Leaders Network Foundation (@SLNIndia), to encourage positive conversations around humanity and togetherness on Twitter. These NGOs will share Twitter Lists of credible sources for users to find information on environmental conservation and sustainability, internet freedom, education and equality.
