Uber appoints Pradeep Parameswaran as APAC business head

Pradeep Parameswaran will be overseeing Uber's cab-hailing business in nine countries including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Uber has appointed Pradeep Parameswaran as the regional general manager for its Asia Pacific business.

Parameswaran, who was leading the company's ride-hailing business in India and South Asia, will take charge for his new role on June 19. In his new role, Parameswaran will oversee the company's cab-hailing business in nine countries including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

“There is huge potential to serve more Uber customers and continue innovating across the diverse region, whether that be taxi partnerships in North Asia, new products like Uber Rent in Australia or pushing two and three-wheelers deep into the Indian heartland,” Parameswaran said in a statement.

Parameswaran joined Uber back in 2017 leading Uber's central operations in India and in South Asia. He was made the company's head of rides business in India and South Asia almost a year later in June 2018.

During his tenure, Parameswaran has been instrumental in diversifying the company's portfolio and introducing new initiatives such as Uber Care. He has also steered the company through a tough time which involved selling UberEats' Indian wing to rival Zomato.

After his appointment Parameswaran, according to a report by TechCrunch, is expected to move to the company's yet-to-be named headquarters in the APAC region. Uber is expected to set up a regional headquarters in Hong Kong.
