Udaan says it enabled over 400 sellers under the electronics category to achieve sales worth 1 crore

Udaan revealed it had recorded a sale of 50 million electronics products within the first three months after the unlock.

Udaan, a business-to-business e-commerce platform, on Monday, announced that it enabled more than 400 sellers on its platform under the electronics category to achieve sales worth 1 crore each in 2020.

The company added that its platform onboarded more than 1.13 lakh, new users, under the electronics category last year. The company shipped more than 160 million electronic products, catering to 53 lakh orders across 12,000 pin codes.

According to Udaan, the large volume of orders came from Uttar Pradesh, followed by West Bengal, Assam, and Bihar. It also pointed out that the category registered a huge pent-up demand after the Covid-19 lockdown was eased. It also noted that the sale of accessories had also skyrocketed, making it one of the highest selling products on the platform. The company revealed that over 120 million accessories and consumer electronics followed by 10 million handsets were sold on its platform last year.

It further revealed that the platform registered the sale of 50 million electronics products within the first three months after the unlock. Audio and mobile accessories accounted for 19% of sale followed by power accessories (16%), mobile handsets (9%), computer and IT accessories (7%), and consumer electronics (6%).

Udaan had raised $280 million in additional funding from new and existing investors earlier this year. Lightspeed Venture Partners, DST Global, GGV Capital, Altimeter Capital, and Tencent participated in the funding. New investors were Octahedron Capital and Moonstone Capital. The additional financing took the overall fundraised by Udaan to $1.15 billion.

The Indian startup also said that it had entered into partnerships with large brands such as Apple, SanDisk, and boAT to allow them to leverage its distribution network.

Hrishikesh Thite, Head - Electronics category, Udaan, said, “As people started working from home, the demand for Electronic products from professionals and families increased to facilitate their daily work, education of kids as well as for family entertainment. This trend was visible across the country. The seller partners on our platform benefitted as they were able to cater to demands across Bharat by leveraging our robust supply chain network and our deep access across the width and depth of the country. Small retailers benefited as they got access to a wide range of quality products at best prices, with the convenience of placing orders on the udaan app anytime from anywhere.”
