UMANG mobile app (Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance) is extremely useful for people to carry out some very important tasks that provide access to a number of services rolled out by both the central and state governments. Its importance lies in the fact that it unifies in one app all the services offered by the governments at both levels and provides it at each individual's fingertips - on smartphones. This mobile-first strategy is all set to provide one more service by interlinking with Mapmyindia.

UMANG mobile app new service: Due to this arrangement between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and MapmyIndia, UMANG app will now show locations of nearby government facilities and services such as mandis, blood banks, ESIC hospitals among others.

MeitY, in a statement, said, "They will be able to see these on the most detailed and interactive street and village level maps of India, built by MapmyIndia. Citizens will also be able to view the driving distance, get directions and turn by turn voice and visual guidance to locations, including traffic and road safety alerts during navigation, through the linkage between UMANG App and MapmyIndia."

What has already been enabled on UMANG app are services like Mera Ration that makes it easier to find nearby fair price ration shops, eNAM for mandis and Damini Lightning Alerts for information on areas where lightning has struck in the last few minutes plus alerts for further lightning strikes, reports ANI.

Information on nearby police stations will also be provided on the map using National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data.

UMANG app users will also be able to raise complaints of damaged roads (under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana - Meri Sadak) by selecting the road on the MapmyIndia platform.

Other features that may soon appear on UMANG app, through the map functionality, include ESIC, Indian Oil, and NHAI.
